Досліджуються історичні передумови розвитку іранської ісламської архітектурної школи. Іслам був перенесений на територію розвиненого Перського царства, з тисячолітніми культурними і архітектурними традиціями, з потужною релігією зороастризму. Ці традиції виявилися настільки стійкими до змін, що не зникли, а в трансформованому вигляді проникли в ісламську архітектуру на території Ірану і вплинули на створення своєрідного типу «ай ванної» мечеті з модифікованим купольним «чартаком» в планувальній структурі.
Аргументовано неспівпадіння історичних і архітектурних періодів, виділено три періоди будівництва мечетей: ранній, середній і високий.
